jon katz’s dogs stole the show. Lenore, the black one, wagged her tail so hard against chairs, counters, book shelves, that george thought her happy hindquarters’ sound effects were a construction site carpenter working over time with a hammer. Red, the orange and white border collie from ireland, paraded up and down the aisles, sniffing around for interesting scents. They especially gravitated towards the children of the audience. One of the several children there decided to play dog and crawled around in a madcap romp with the real quadropeds. I must say that the mayhem of these moments transpired after the formal story telling and exerpt-reading had drawn to a close. jon is a born story teller and his incisive look into the social fabric of our land and the private drama of indidviduals who open up to him cast spells over his listeners.
